It has been said that good decision is “90% information and 10%
inspiration”. Information flows are to the life and health of a business
what the flow of blood is to the life and health of an individual. It is the
catalyst of management and the ingredient that coalesces the management
function of planning, operating and controlling any organism is held
together by the possession of means for the acquisition, use relation and
transmission of information.
Business houses, State Governments, technocrats, every body is in need of
information for supporting the decision making process, upgrading of
knowledge in today’s rapidly growing complex world. Information has become
the keyword for all walks of life to discharge any function effectively. To
operate in real time we need information systems which operate with speed.
The simple information mediums like punched cards, cables replace magnetic
disks and cables are by satellites. As the demand of information and no. of
person needing it is increasing, multifold communication system like Modem,
Fax, Electronic Mail, Internet are designed and so the need of communication
technologists is also linked.
Now information is no longer an individual’s asset & one needs to keep all
the information which he may need in future. Information is accumulated at a
centralized place and can be acquired on demand whenever needed. Govt. of
India started NICNET (National Information Center Network) to cater the need
of information of any sort.
